In some cases you might need to create a changeable parameter in a development. If it is user changeable usually it is better to create a master data, because this is how SAP does it in standard. With master data approach developments should be seamless versus SAP standard. But there are some cases, e.g. logic that will be performed only by technical specialists, where you don’t need master data transaction. In such cases additional master data can overcomplicate the development and create additional effort for the developer. The most usual case is when there are multiple “variants” of the same program and we need some control to choose the one that we plan to use at the current moment.

Sometimes it is needed to find out which transport request changed some values for a certain key. It is quite easy to find a request by key (How to find customizing requests by key values in tables), but we also might want to check which values where set by the corresponding request.

In systems where a lot of people work on different parallel projects we usually can’t be completely sure if we will break some existing functionality during transfer of some request. It can be quite scary to transfer something in this environment, but actually there is an easy way to check for such problems before the transfer.

There are a lot of cases, where you would want to find all requests connected to some organizational unit (e.g. warehouse number), or check if certain requests (don’t) contain some organizational unit.

You could find some problems that are impossible to understand just using the debugger or standard reports. For some of these problems ABAP runtime trace comes quite useful. These problems could be:
